In Loving Memory of Ronna Lou “Kensmoe” Devereaux
September 25, 1942 – September 1, 2026
Ronna Lou “Kensmoe” Devereaux, 83, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 1, 2026.
Ronna was born on September 25, 1942, at Bismarck Hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Freda Kensmoe and Lenard “Bud” Kensmoe. Throughout her life, she called North Dakota and California home, but it was Montana that ultimately captured her heart. She loved Montana deeply and was grateful to spend the remainder of her life surrounded by the beauty and peace she found there.
On December 17, 1967, Ronna married the love of her life, Michael “Mike” Devereaux, in North Dakota. Their love and life together became one of the greatest blessings of her life.
Ronna was beautiful not only on the outside, but in every way that truly matters. She had a heart that seemed to have room for everyone. She was the kind of woman who would give the shirt off her back to someone in need, never asking for anything in return. She was selfless, forgiving, gentle, and kind. Her love was freely given, and those fortunate enough to know her could feel it.
Her faith was at the very center of who she was. Her favorite saying was, “God is so good.” And she didn’t simply say those words—she lived them. Even through life’s difficulties, she held tightly to her faith and trusted in God’s goodness. Her life was a quiet testimony to the love of Christ: serving others, offering forgiveness, bringing comfort, and showing kindness wherever she went.
Ronna believed in community and in the importance of being there for others. She was deeply involved in the community and spent more than 20 years as a Senior Companion, giving her time, friendship, and love to those around her. She was also an active member of Red Hats, Bunco, and the Church. She had a special gift for making people feel welcome, heard, and cared for.
She loved arts and crafts, puzzles, coloring, and gardening. But above all, her greatest treasures were her family. Her daughter, Michelle Devereaux, her granddaughter, Micara Elmer, and Micara’s husband Brandon Elmer, were among her greatest joys and held a very special place in her heart. The love she had for them was immeasurable.
Ronna had a rare gift for bringing peace to others. Nurses and CNAs who cared for her would often come to her seeking peace, comfort, and clarity. Even when she was the one receiving care, she somehow found a way to care for those around her. That was simply who Ronna was. She gave comfort because comfort lived within her.
She leaves behind a legacy far greater than words can express—a legacy of faith, compassion, forgiveness, service, and unconditional love. She showed those around her what it means to love others as Christ taught us to love.
Though our hearts are broken by her absence, we find comfort knowing that Ronna is no longer suffering and is now resting in the loving arms of Jesus. We can imagine her hearing the words she lived her life hoping to hear:
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
Her earthly journey is finished, but her love will continue to live in every person she touched. Every act of kindness, every garden she tended, every laugh she shared, every person she comforted, and every life she made a little brighter will carry a piece of her forward.
And perhaps most fittingly, as we say goodbye to this beautiful woman, we can hear her voice reminding us of what she always knew:
God is so good.
Until we meet again in Heaven. You were loved beyond measure, and you will be missed beyond words.
May you rest peacefully in the presence of your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 17, 2026 at the Twin Bridges Senior Center at 2:00pm. There will be food provided so come hungry!
